Eric Ravilious (1903-1942), Tempera on plywood panel 1930, Gift of Sir Geoffrey and The Honourable Lady Fry 1945.

These panels decorated the door of the Fry family's music room in Portman Square, London. Ravilious based the tennis court on the Manor Gardens at Eastbourne, and treated the panels as a single continuous image.

As well as being a painter, Eric Ravilious was also a well-known designer during his short life. His 'very British' designs adorned poster hoardings, printed ceramics and illustrated books.
