This is one of a series of four large watercolours showing the River Avon under different effects of light. The cliff catching the light of the setting sun is Sea Walls, and on the left of the horizon is the romantic 'gothick' tower known as Cook's Folly.This was built at the end of the 17th century by John Cook, a City Chamberlain, to embellish his Sneyd Park home. The quarry boats shown are flat-bottomed barges that were used for transporting limestone.
