From upon a grassy hill, the view looks down into a wide valley, with gently sloping sides. The slopes are dotted with round trees and on the right hand bank is a small protruding building. In the valley lies a smooth curved river with a tall ship sailing on it. On the hill in the foreground, on the right hand side, two figures and a dog look out at the view.
Samuel Hieronymus Grimm (1733 – 1794) was an 18th-century Swiss landscape artist who worked in oils, watercolours, and pen and ink media.
