A view of the Avon Gorge, looking upriver, from the Gloucestershire side of the River Avon; on the left is the remains of the corn and later snuff mill (before it became the Observatory), and in the middle-distance is the distinctive building of Windsor Terrace; three ships are seen sailing upriver, the second of which has a rowing or tug boat in front of it.
Samuel Jackson (1794 – 1869) was an English watercolourist and oil painter who has been called the "father" of the Bristol School of art.
