Rolinda Sharples (1793-1838) was an English painter who specialised in portraits and genre paintings in oil. She exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Society of British Artists, where she became an honorary member.
Rolinda Sharples painted portraits throughout her career and also used her friends as models in her scenes of everyday life. This may be one of those friends, dressed in a rich shawl and exotic jewellery to suggest a lady from a far-away land.
