Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer (1636-1699) was a Franco-Flemish painter who specialised in flower pieces. At his first Salon exhibition in 1673, Monnoyer exhibited four still lifes of flowers and his name soon became synonymous with flower painting. Contemporaries thought that Monnoyer's flower paintings so lifelike that the blooms lacked only perfume.
