Archibald Thorburn (1860 – 1935) was a renowned British watercolorist and illustrator, celebrated for his highly detailed, naturalistic paintings of British wildlife, particularly game birds and birds of prey.

He is widely considered one of the foremost bird artists of his time, with his work capturing the plumage, texture, and natural behavior of birds with great technical precision.

You can find herons, long-necked, pointy-beaked birds, wading through the shallows of UK wetlands. Some you’ll be familiar with whilst some can be tricky to spot and others have only made an appearance recently, influenced by the warming climate. Common species like the grey heron can be found on almost any body of water, from a city garden, to a river, to a tidal creek.

Little egrets first bred in the UK in 1996, but prior to that it was rare to see them in the UK. They're now an almost guaranteed bird when birdwatching in a UK wetland, but more so in the south.
